Tutankhamun (sometimes spelled Tutankhamen)
was Pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt lived during the
period known as the New Kingdom. His original name, Tutankhaten,
meant "Living Image of Aten", while Tutankhamun meant "Living Image of Amun.
Tutankhamum was Pharaoh during the restoration period after the disruption of Akenhaten.

After the opening of Tut's Tomb, Lord Carnarvan died due to blood poisoning of a mosquito bite.
Newspapers invented the Mummy's Curse as a sensational story about the famous tomb. The Curse was supposed to bring death to anyone who violated a Pharaoh's tomb. Tut's tomb has no curse written upon it, but the idea of a mummy's revenge is very popular in movies, comic books and television. |

Howard Carter spent most of his adult life in Egypt. Originally trained as an artist, he was not university educated. He trained himself to be an archaeologist and served as a contract archaeologist, an antiquities Inspector for the Egyptian government, and a buyer for antiquity collectors. He methodically searched for many years for the Tomb of Tutankhamun, based on knowledge of a few artifacts that had been taken from the tomb in antiquity and his discovery of burial deposits in the Valley of the Kings. His sponsor, Lord Carnarvan, held the right to dig in the Valley of the Kings, and they proceeded to clear the valley down to bedrock based on Carter's belief that there was an undiscovered tomb.

ancient God of the Sun, revived to prominence by Akhenaten. The Sun God
was still worshipped, but the God of Amun had more temples, wealth and
influence. Akhenaten (crowned Amenhotep IV) abandoned the other gods
and proclaimed Aten the sole God and himself as the chief Priest. He
moved his capital to a barren site, Amarna, and built the entire city
and temple complexes.
