A mother goddess, associated with love, fertility, sexuality, music, dance and alcohol. Sometimes Hathor was seen as a sky goddess, a vast cow who stradled the heavens with her four legs marking the four cardinal points.
Hathor may be a remnant of the original cattle culture of the pre-historic egyptians. The King was often depicted as being suckled by the Hathor in cow form. This relief on the walls of Deir el Bahri shows Hathor suckling Hatshepsut.
Meretseger Meretseger protected the Theban Necropolis, the Valley of the Kings and all other tombs in Western Thebes. She dwelt at the pyramid shaped peak. There is a shrine to her near the Valley of the Queens. She is generally portrayed as a cobra with a woman's head. She was worshiped locally by the Workmen of Deir el Medina.
