Made in Egypt If you are in Egypt, you should know that most everything you buy is Made in Egypt. If you mostly buy your Egypt stuff on the internet or in the Museum Shop, you probably are buying things that are not Made in Egypt. While Egypt does export souvenirs, the Chinese and other artists worldwide do make a lot of stuff with Egypt themes. There is a thriving business in Egypt for making sourvenirs. There are new souvenirs every year, and the artists compete with each other to make the best Egyptian reproductions and interpretations. Also Egypt is a traditional worldwide production center for copper, brass, glassblowing, Egyptian cotton, perfume oils and carved alabaster. And don't forget the papyrus tomb scenes and scrolls. There are Islamic and Pharonic items in most every type of items manufactured in Egypt. Something for everyone. On my last tour of Egypt, Made in Egypt Tour 2008, I visited some of the artists in Egypt. I saw mother of pearl inlay, brass and copper engraving, resin statue making, alabaster carving and construction of cotton applique. I also saw the fabled reproduction artist of el Gurna in Luxor carving limetone plaques, creating small statues in resin, composite, and faience and carving large granite replicas of pharonic pieces for export.
